The rhythms of life in Africa are dictated by the seasons... wet and dry.
Tanzania has two wet seasons... short rains in November, and long rains March-May.
June through August - at the end of the annual "long rains", millions of wildebeest make their way across the Serengeti in their annual migration. You can witness their epic journey as they navigate the vast plains, cross swollen rivers and run the constant gauntlet of the world's most fearsome predators.
September, October - as the dry season bites before the reprieve of the "short" November rains, water becomes scarce. During this period game sighting is very accessible as predators and prey alike concentrate around shrinking waterholes and rivers.
December, January - during these months, millions of Gnu make their way across the Serengeti to Kenya's Masai Mara.
If you want to combine your safari with a mountain trekking adventure on Kilimanjaro or Meru, please see the Kili page for the best times to climb.
